About Bunk
Alec “Bunk” Wurth was born on January 30, 1970, in Long Beach, California to Richard and Sally Wurth. The youngest of three children, Bunk and his family moved to the city of Orange in 1973. He graduated from Servite High School in 1988, earned his bachelor's degree from CSUF and completed his master's degree in Art Education from The Academy of Art University. Bunk was a devoted teacher for more than seven years at the Speech and Language Development Center in Buena Park, CA, a school for children and young adults with language, learning and behavioral disorders. An athlete his entire life, Bunk was an avid rugby, softball, basketball and soccer player. He was also an enthusiastic surfer and fisherman. Bunk also enjoyed many post-college years playing for the Orange County Bucks rugby team.
In February 2006 at the age of 36, Bunk suffered a life-changing injury during a rugby match that left him paralyzed from the neck down and dependent on a ventilator to breathe. He was blessed with the support of his close-knit family and countless friends. Despite his condition, Bunk maintained a consistent, positive outlook, living his mantra of "No Bad Days."
Bunk died unexpectedly on January 7, 2017. Upon his passing, his family established the Bunk Wurth Memorial Fund to benefit the young men of Servite High School located in Anaheim, California. The fund provides tuition assistance to Servite alumni who demonstrate financial need in sending their own sons to Servite.
